VIP Club Contest
February 14, 2024 | Posted by: Jeremy Schaffner
I recently sent out a very easy contest to win a $50 gift card. All that was required was to answer this simple question:
“What is your favorite holiday movie?”
The response was incredible!!! 93 contestants, of which, 6 could not choose just one!
Here’s a quick summary of the results:
Clear champs are Elf with 14, and both Home Alone and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation tied for 2nd place with 10 votes.
A VERY close 3rd would be the most controversial “Christmas Movie” – Die Hard – with 9, (I am on the yes, this is a Christmas movie side). Other “nontraditional Christmas Movies” include Love Actually with 4 votes, Harry Potter with 2, (no one indicated just one of the films, so I did some research – there are 5 Harry Potter movies with Christmas in them, but the one I immediately think of is the Sorcerer’s Stone, where Harry spends his first Christmas at Hogwarts while most of the other kids return home to spend the holiday break with their family) and G.N.A.R – which appears to be a ski film from 2011.
LOTS of votes for what I’d deem as “traditional Christmas films or specials”. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with 4, A Christmas Story with 3 votes, it’s a wonderful life with 1, a White Christmas with 3 and Miracle on 34th Street with 1. Films that have many versions include The Grinch Who Stole Christmas at 8, and A Christmas Carol with 3.
Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause and the Polar Express received 7 and 4 nods respectively.
Films that received 2 or fewer votes include:
Klaus, Noel, Christmas Office Party, Jack Frost, Scrooged, Time for her to come home for Christmas, Jingle all the way, Bad Santa, The Holly And The Ivy, The holiday, and Christmas Chronicles.
One brave person admitted that they are a MASSIVE Hallmark Christmas movie fan who’d watch ANY of those shows! (I know people in my immediate family who feel exactly the same way) ????
And one grinch in the bunch, who Doesn’t watch holiday movies.
It appears that my family’s favorites are Rudolph, The Grinch, National Lampoons and Elf. Love Actually is cherished by my Wife and I, and an annual viewing of this British Rom-Com is a MUST. Harry Potter films are on heavy rotation throughout the year too. Some new one’s in the mix at our house are “Spirited” (with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell) and for the adults only, Violent Night, which is an over the top, R Rated, gory action film with a TON of 80’s and 90’s Xmas Movie easter eggs, with David Harbour as a fed-up Santa. (I feel like those people who loved Die Hard will really enjoy this film).
Personally, I have a soft spot for “8 Bit Christmas” which is chalk full of 80’s throwbacks for a heap of nostalgia.
So, regardless of what your favorite holiday film is, I hope you have time to view it with family and friends this holiday season!
May you have a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you all the absolute best for 2024!
Jeremy
